About me
My special attachment to trees began as a child, when my grandfather would tell me interesting stories about tree species in his cooperage or while walking in the woods.
The log engravings show unique patterns and peculiar shapes that are an unrepeatable fingerprint of nature.
I first encountered the imprint of the rings of the year through the work of Bryan Nash Gill and I knew immediately that this was what I had to do.
I use a manual letterpress technique without using a press, so each print is unique and unrepeatable. The texture of the log engraving is also palpable by hand on the prints.
In the exclusive category, I am often asked to visually capture the memories encased in annual rings after the felling of old trees planted in the family. In other cases, I make the impression from the wood of their choice.
My mission
In today's society, we are most affected by a phenomenon called plant blindness. We used to know the names of trees, but now, unfortunately, very few of us do, and we perceive the plants around us almost as landmarks. This is mainly the result of a digitalised world and the resulting distance from nature.
My main goal is to bring the trees in our environment closer to us, and to reduce, even slightly, this kind of modern-day blindness. By showing trees that are currently easily recognisable, I want to encourage people to pay attention to the trees around them on their usual routes.
I find them fascinating and I learn a lot from the educational series.
For every print you sold, you planted trees. This is our way of expressing our gratitude for the unique drawings, and the only way to ensure that such wonders are created for future generations.

About the technique
My works are physically made from log cuts.
The process consists of many steps, starting with the purchase of the log.
My most unusual work is when I am approached by clients who want to capture the memories of a family tree - planted by a grandparent, for example - that has been cut down and is now encased in a tree ring. I also get log cuttings from friends, hazardous tree crews, carpenters, lumberyards, and even marketplaces.
Then I can start my favourite part of the job: the workshop work - planing, sanding and 3D highlighting of the rings of the year by firing. My favourite moment is when the full pattern is first drawn out after planing, each one fascinates me and it doesn't fade with the many discs.
This is followed by the impression. I use a manual letterpress technique, so there are quite a few drafts before the final print is made. Sometimes the sanding has to be corrected, other times the paper moves or tears. When I finally get the print right it is a moment of real joy.
